Just a year ago, the Baylor Pickleball Club was a mere idea. Today, it’s a force to be reckoned with, ready to take on the best college pickleball players in the nation at the DUPR National Collegiate Tournament.
“It’s been an incredible journey,” said Paul Underwood, the club’s founder. “From starting with nothing to becoming an official club sport and now heading to nationals, it’s truly amazing.”
A Talented Team Ready to Shine
Ten talented Baylor pickleball players will represent the university at the tournament. They’ve been training hard, dedicating countless hours to perfecting their skills.
“Most of us play almost every day,” said freshman Laura Soto. “The dedication and hard work have paid off, and we’re excited to compete against the best players in the country.”
The team boasts several top-ranked players, including Landry Laywell, a Baylor law student, and sophomore duo Peyton Pogach and Gabe Gomez, one of the nation’s top male doubles pairs.
High Hopes and Tough Competition
The Baylor pickleball team is confident in their abilities and believes they can compete at the highest level.
“We’ve played against other top schools and feel like we’re right there with them,” said Pogach. “If we play our best, we can come out on top.”
While the competition will be fierce, the team is eager to showcase their skills and represent Baylor on the national stage.
“We want to establish Baylor as a top pickleball program,” said Underwood. “We hope to attract talented players who want to come to Baylor and play pickleball at a high level.”
A Bright Future for Baylor Pickleball
The DUPR Collegiate National Championship will take place from November 1st to 3rd at the Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas. The Baylor Pickleball Club is ready to make a splash and leave a lasting impression on the college pickleball scene.
