Canada’s former tennis sensation, Genie Bouchard, showcased her resilience with a stunning three-game comeback, narrowly defeating former collegiate tennis player Brooke Buckner by just three points.
Bouchard’s Second Consecutive Comeback in Women’s Singles
On the third day of PPA The Masters, Bouchard delivered another jaw-dropping performance in the women’s singles category. Despite losing the first game in just 11 minutes to No. 2 seed Buckner, she staged a remarkable recovery. Bouchard leveled the match in the second game and completely dominated the third, sealing the decisive win in under 10 minutes.
This victory followed her three-game triumph in the round of 32 against her doubles partner, Hannah Blatt. In that match, Bouchard overcame a 9-11 setback in the first game to win convincingly with scores of 11-2 and 11-8, all within 45 minutes. With these impressive wins, Bouchard now advances to the quarterfinals to face former WTA player and No. 5 seed Kaitlyn Christian.
Mixed Results for Doubles and Men’s Competitions
Later in the doubles competition, Bouchard and Blatt teamed up but were defeated by No. 2 seeds Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher, with scores of 3-11 and 5-11.
In the men’s doubles, Donald Young and Travis Rettenmaier faced top-seeded brothers Ben and Collin Johns. Despite a valiant effort, they lost in straight games, 11-6, 11-6, in a match lasting less than 40 minutes. Earlier, Young and Rettenmaier had eliminated Jack Sock and Collin Shick in a previous round.
Sock, however, continues to shine in the singles competition. After a grueling three-game victory over No. 5 seed Dylan Frazier in the round of 16, he now moves to the quarterfinals to face No. 2 seed Connor Garnett, once a hitting partner for Novak Djokovic.
